AS THE NO. 1 BEAUTY BRAND IN THE WORLD, WE HAVE A ROLE TO PLAY TOWARDS SUSTAINABLE BEAUTY, NEVER COMPROMISING ON PERFORMANCE
Since 2013, L’Oreal Paris has taken a list of actions to become more sustainable and has set up in 2020 new objectives to better respect planetary boundaries. 11 of our 26 factories are carbon neutral. we improved the biodegradability of our rinsing formulas from 65% up to over 95% for some of them. The target is now to bring a maximum of products to this level. By 2025 L’Oreal Paris factories will be using only 100% renewable energy, becoming carbon neutral, and by 2030 we commit to reducing our carbon emissions by 50%*, improving all our products across the entire value chain, from packaging design, to formulation processes, until the end of life.

ENVIRONMENTAL & SOCIAL IMPACT
In cosmetics, the carbon footprint and the water footprint are two key components of the product's environmental impact. Each product can thus be classified in relation to other L’Oréal products within the same category.
Finally, additional information on the manufacturing conditions, packaging and social contribution of the product such as the support of vulnerable communities are detailed in the "Environmental and social impact" section of your product description sheets, to provide 100% transparency on haircare products.
DISCOVER THE SCORE OF OUR PRODUCTS
Each product can be classified in relation to other L’Oréal products within the same category. For example, one shampoo is compared to over 1000 other shampoos from the L’Oréal Group. “A” shampoos have the most favorable profile and belong to the top 10% of the shampoo category in terms of environmental footprint. Conversely, “E” belong to the 10% of L’Oréal shampoos with the highest environmental footprint.
DISCOVER OUR METHODOLOGY
This calculation methodology was developed by the L’Oréal Group with 11 independent scientific experts and is aligned with European "Environmental Footprint of Products" standards. The application of the impact calculation method as well as the accuracy of the data have been verified by Bureau Veritas, an independent auditor (access the Bureau Veritas verification statement here).
